An UFO on my picture?

On my last set of pictures taken on the Tuberculosis Hospital in Prusia, Cartago, Costa Rica I was checking if the Sigma 24-70mm HSM was showing any signs of vignetting, for this reason I started zooming on the corners of one of the pictures and then found this:

 

Now, I have to say im no ufologist but you have to admit it seems weird.

You need to look the right top area of the picture, use the crop below as a guide of where to look, the object appears above an electrical pole.

All in all, this was an interesting detail to find on a picture, I showed it to several people already and the reactions are interesting, they are sure its an UFO. This in combination with the kind of spooky/mystical place where this photo was taken surely helps your mind roll along with the idea of an UFO.

All I know ... we will never know =)

Prusia Tuberculosis Hospital & Irazu Volcano with D700 & Sigma 24-70mm

On my last photography blog I said I would be making more tests on the Sigma 24-70mm with the new HSM motor on my new Nikon D700.

Although the test in itself is mostly focused on the lens, I have to mention the fact that the Nikon D700 is simply superb!, the color quality and detail even on higuer ISO's is simply amazing, the camera is super responsive, you just hear that huge CLICK!!! and voila!

So far I think the Sigma 24-70mm is a smart buy, im very happy with the results, sharpness on the lens is amazing, vignetting almost not visible in most pictures i've taken or simply minimal. All in all I will not jump into technical details since I dont have the proper background for that, but I will show you some of the pictures taken which I think show great color and detail.

Image taken on Irazu Volcano in Costa Rica, settings: Aperture f/7.1, Shutter Speed 1/250, ISO 200, Focal Length 38mm on Sigma 24-70mm HSM. No Post processing, image came like this from the camera.

All in all I think that images speak for themselves, if you are interested on the Sigma 24-70mm these might give you a good idea. I think the lens is great, sharp, super fast, fast focusing, it simply works like a charm on the top of the line Nikon D700.

Im very glad I bought it instead of the Nikkor 24-70mm

All pictures have been taken using the VIVID setting on the Nikon D700, I love rich colors on pictures, I think they simply look better, but thats my taste.

I will probably bring more Sigma 24-70mm HSM examples in the near future.

First Shots Sigma 24-70mm and Nikon D700

This is one of the first image captures with my new Nikon D700 combined with the Sigma 24-70mm HSM lens.

First of all I have to say that im not a professional photographer neither a "gadget" analyzer but I actually googled a lot of information on the new sigma 24-70mm before I decided to go for it.

The Sigma 24-70mm is considered to be one of the few (if any) professional grade lenses to compete with the Nikkor more expensive options.

I bought mine from Amazon at $900, the Nikkor 24-70mm is listed at Amazon at an usual price of $1,899.

Since I just recently jumped into the FX (full frame) world, I needed a viable option to avoid spending $1,899 on a new lens since my DX Lenses will really not work as desired on my new Nikon D700.

The picture on the right was taken with an ISO 200, focal length 24mm, shutter speed 1/320, aperture at f/3.2.

Honestly i've taken a few pictures using the lens, but I think the lens is extremely sharp. The colors on the pictures shown have not been retouched whatsoever, I just chose Vivid saturation on the D700 settings.

Love the contrast and colors.

So far my first impressions of the Sigma 24-70mm are super good, the lens is super sharp, the auto focusing is super silent and fast on my Nikon D700. There are some minor issues on front focusing when using a higher focal length of 70mm but nothing annoying.

Some people don't like the fact that the lens is an 82 mm diameter lens, obviously buying a b+w filter for such a lens is expensive, but I love the feeling of the lens, is huge!, I love heavy lens and cameras cause its easier for me to take decent pictures without a tripod.

Ill probably will be taking quite a few more shots on the next few days on the new Sigma 24-70mm HSM and will post more examples.
